Alaska Inside Passage Cruise

Holland America Line

August 11-19, 2017

Fri / Sat - 9 Days

Welcome to the 49th state of wonder. Bring your camera and binoculars for a spectacular seven-day cruise that departs from Vancouver for a round trip experience through Alaska’s scenic Inside Passage. Catch your breath as ice-blue glaciers thunder and crash while humpback whales break the surface and gracefully arc out of the water. A naturalist onboard will explain the behaviors of wildlife and the mysterious and beautiful landscapes as you cruise.

Choose to take optional excursions such as a savory salmon bake, a wildlife cruise, dogsledding, totem-pole gazing or cruise the twin Sawyer Glaciers at the end of the Tracy Arm Fjord.

Visit Alaska’s state capital, Juneau, accessible by air or sea only and see several glaciers in Glacier Bay National Park.

Spend your first night in a hotel in Vancouver before boarding Holland America Line’s five-star mid-size ship, the ms Nieuw Amsterdam. While on the ship, enjoy outstanding service and elegance on board with plenty of activities for all ages.

Itinerary Ship

Mon, Aug 14: Juneau. This morning, before the afternoon arrival in to Juneau, an optional tour to Tracy Arm Fjord is offered from the ship via catamaran. Nestled between 3,000-foot-high granite walls, the narrow, twisting slice of ocean called Tracy Arm Fjord weaves through the Tongass National Forest for roughly 35 miles. The shoreline is spotted with waterfalls, created by melting snowcaps, and trees sprouting at odd angles from rocky outcroppings. The dramatic twin Sawyer Glaciers at the end of Tracy Arm are framed by mountains on either side, and are often bathed in a light mist that amplifies the blue hue of the glacial ice. The glaciers are home to wildlife such as bears, wolves, and moose; while the fjord’s icy waters are popular playground for the seals and whales. Then, cruise to Juneau, the state capital of Alaska. With its bounty of water, forests, mountains and glaciers, Juneau offers a variety of optional activities. Optional excursions include the Taku Glacier Lodge, Feast & Five Glacier Seaplane excursion, a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier and the Juneau Icefields, whale watching, flightseeing, rafting, fishing, dog sledding and hiking. (B,L,D)

Tue, Aug 15: Skagway. Port in the picturesque Gold Rush town of Skagway. A not-to-be-missed highlight in Skagway is the White Pass & Yukon narrow-gauge railway. Other optional excursions include glacier helicopter flightseeing, hiking, or sightseeing. (B,L,D)

Wed, Aug 16: Scenic cruising through Glacier Bay National Park. Spend the day enjoying the gorgeous scenery while watching and listening for calving glaciers. National Park Rangers will be on board to educate you on the importance of this area and to help you spot seals, sea lions, sea otters and whales as you navigate through this spectacular waterway. (B,L,D)

Thu, Aug 17: Ketchikan. Discover Ketchikan, located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest. Optional activities include a flightseeing trip to the Misty Fjords National Monument, an excursion on the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's adventure, a sightseeing trip to explore Totem Bight State Park or Saxman Village to see the world’s largest collection of totem poles.
