Holland, Michigan’s Tulip Time Festival

Dutch Charm & Traditions in Western Michigan

May 11-13, 2017

Thu / Sat - 3 Days

Since 1929, the small city of Holland, Michigan has celebrated its Dutch heritage and culture and each spring it blossoms with literally millions of tulips. This charming town’s Tulip Time Festival has been named the “Best Small Town Festival” by Reader's Digest, and received USA Today's 2016 “Best Flower Festival.” In addition to tulips decorating city parks, public attractions and six miles of tulip lanes through Holland's historic district and neighborhoods, the festival features parades, concerts, theatre, and traditional Dutch dance performances, attractions and food.

Attend the Tulip Time Festival, a celebration of Dutch heritage and culture. Enjoy a Dutch culinary experience, create your own Dutch-inspired Delft masterpiece and visit Windmill Island Gardens, with its manicured plantings, dikes, canals and the only authentic operating Dutch windmill in the United States. Tour the city with a local guide, view the grand finale parade and see a festival headliner show: the lively New Odyssey Dinner Show, a trip favorite for past Ambassadair travelers.

Itinerary Hotel

Thu, May 11: Depart Indianapolis by motorcoach, stopping in Saugatuck, Michigan. Upon arrival in the city of Holland visit Veldheer Tulip Farm, with more than five million tulips, plus thousands of daffodils, hyacinths and crocuses in the spring. There are also a wooden shoe factory and a Delftware production facility where you may watch the world-famous Dutch pottery being molded, fired, hand-decorated and glazed. Check into the hotel then head for dinner at Boatwerks, a premier waterfront restaurant that presents a unique four-course meal with a spin on traditional Dutch cuisine. (Meal: Dinner)

Fri, May 12: Take a city tour of the Holland area with a costumed guide and learn the history of this famous town and its Tulip Time Festival. Colorful stops along the way provide many photo opportunities. Explore the Marktplaats (“Marketplace”) with the tastes, sights, sounds and crafts of 19th-century Holland then enjoy free time in the downtown area. Head to Windmill Island Gardens, featuring a 250-year-old working Dutch windmill, De Zwaan (“graceful bird”), which towers over the 36-acre property of manicured gardens, dikes, and canals and more than 150,000 tulips. The gardens also are the home of an antique Dutch carousel and the Posthouse museum, an exact replica of a 14th-century wayside inn. In the evening, attend the New Odyssey Dinner Show. Featuring three ultra-talented guys and 30 instruments, New Odyssey has amazed and entertained fans with a continual stream of innovative and timeless musical compositions. This festival favorite adds new arrangements to their show every year so it’s always fresh and fun to see time and again. (B,D)

Sat, May 13: This morning, create a traditional Delft design on canvas with a local artist. Not to worry - no painting experience is necessary to complete your Dutch-inspired masterpiece.
