Celebrate New Year’s at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena! You’ll have a grandstand seat at the beginning of the parade route to watch the marching bands from throughout the nation, as well as the equestrian units and floral floats. The day after the parade, visit the floats and see them up close to appreciate the design, workmanship and hundreds of hours that go into their creation.

While in Southern California, discover Los Angeles on a private city tour and wander through the Getty Center and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum. Ring in the New Year with your fellow travelers at a special New Year’s Eve dinner party.

Itinerary

Fri, Dec 29: Depart Indianapolis and fly to Los Angeles, California. Upon arrival, continue to the Getty Center and the J. Paul Getty Museum, renowned for its architecture, gardens and views overlooking Los Angeles. Enjoy a picnic lunch here before exploring the grounds. Continue to Long Beach to check in to your hotel, where your evening is free to enjoy the area and dine on your own. (Meals: Lunch)
Sat, Dec 30: Enjoy your morning at leisure before departing for The Original Farmers Market for lunch on your own and time to explore. Next, take a private tour of Los Angeles, including the TCL Chinese Theater (formerly Grauman’s), the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hollywood, the Sunset Strip, and the La Brea Tarpits. The last stop on historic Route 66, (and on the tour today) is the Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park, which also marks the spot where in 1925 a retired fisherman named Olaf Olsen became the inspiration for comic Elzie Segar’s “Popeye the Sailorman.” Soak up the nostalgia at this famous pier with time on your own to ride the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel, take a peaceful walk on the beach, shop or dine – all while enjoying the outstanding coastal views! (Meals: Breakfast)
Sun, Dec 31: Spend part of the day on a self-guided tour of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Don’t miss the Air Force One Pavilion, which houses a Boeing 707 used as Air Force One during Reagan’s administration. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a dazzling New Year’s Eve dinner and champagne toast. (Meals: Breakfast, Dinner)

Mon, Jan 1: Depart early morning to watch the 127th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade from your reserved grandstand seat. Admire the magnificent floral floats, high-stepping equestrians and spirited marching bands. Afterward, head back to the hotel, with the rest of your day free for individual exploring. An optional historical tour of the Queen Mary will be offered this afternoon. Larger than the Titanic, the elegant Queen Mary was launched in 1936 by Cunard-White Star Line as a transatlantic liner and was stripped down and converted into a troopship (dubbed the “Grey Ghost” for her stealth and color) during WWII. After the war, she was refitted for passenger service and sailed as a luxury liner until 1967, when she was docked in Long Beach and became a floating hotel and attraction. (Meals: Breakfast)
Tue, Jan 2: Return to Pasadena to see the floats up close and explore Old Pasadena, with lunch on your own. After lunch, visit the Huntington Library, Art Collection and Botanical Gardens. The three distinct features of the Huntington are linked by a devotion to research, education and beauty. View the library’s extraordinary collection of rare books and manuscripts in the fields of British and American History and literature. The Art Gallery contains one of the most comprehensive collections of 18th and 19th-century British and French art, and is home to Gainsborough’s Blue Boy and Lawrence’s Pinkie. Take a stroll through the Botanical Gardens, covering over 120 acres with more than a dozen specialized gardens. Return to Long Beach. Return to the hotel to rest and freshen up before going out for a memorable Farewell Dinner! (Meals: Breakfast, Dinner)

Wed, Jan 3: After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, depart late morning for the airport to board your flight to Indianapolis. (Meals: Breakfast)
