The Grand Canyon & Sedona

Western Adventure

July 11-15, 2018

Wed / Sun - 5 Days

“The Grand Canyon fills me with awe. It is beyond comparison — beyond description ... Do nothing to mar its grandeur ... Keep it for your children and your children's children, and all who come after you.” - Theodore Roosevelt

An immense gorge a mile deep and up to 18 miles wide, the scale of the Grand Canyon is so vast that even from the best vantage point, only a fraction of its 277 miles can be seen. Paired with Sedona, a geological wonderland where multi-hued stone formations jut upward from the high desert floor, creating a vivid, mesmerizing setting, this incredible adventure combines two magnificent destinations into one amazing experience.

Traverse the desert on a four-wheel jeep drive through the red rocks. Discover the history, geology, climate, flora and fauna of Sedona on a narrated trolley tour and visit the striking Chapel of the Holy Cross with spectacular views. Visit Montezuma Castle National Monument, a five-story cliff dwelling built into an alcove 100 feet above the Beaver Creek Canyon floor. And spend two nights near the rim of the incredible Grand Canyon with ample free time to discover one of America’s most popular national parks.

Itinerary Hotels Map

Wed, July 11: Fly to Phoenix, Arizona and depart for Grand Canyon National Park, one of the great seven natural wonders of the world. Stop in Prescott for a Welcome Lunch at The Palace Saloon, the oldest frontier saloon in Arizona. Situated on Whiskey Row, which in the 1900’s was home to numerous saloons primarily due to the gold rush culture, The Palace was much more than a fancy "watering hole." Men came in to check for notices of work available; it served as an election central for several political races and cattle spreads; and mineral claims were bought and sold over the bar. Continue on to the National Geographic Visitor Center where the Grand Canyon IMAX Movie provides an excellent introduction to the park. Check in to Kachina Lodge along the rim of the canyon for two nights. (Meal: Lunch)

Thu, July 12: Today is free to experience the Grand Canyon as you like. Use the free shuttle system and spend the day exploring at your own pace. Participate in one of the many ranger programs offered by the park or consider an optional excursion. (B)

Fri, July 13: After a morning at leisure depart for Sedona, a beautiful town situated on the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon. Take a guided trolley tour for an introduction to the beauty, culture and sights and stop at the inspirational Chapel of the Holy Cross with spectacular views. Check in to the Best Western Plus Arroyo Roble Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Sedona. Spend the evening discovering more of the town at your leisure. (B)

Sat, July 14: Grab your camera for a Pink Jeep tour of Sedona’s Red Rock Country. Choose between a relaxing, on and off-road experience where you will see beautiful red rock panoramas and learn about the local plant life, wildlife, geology, and history or take in the amazing landscape while traveling along a rugged and bumpy old wagon trail road gaining over 1,500 feet in elevation. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore the art galleries and quaint shops, or hike the extensive network of trails around town. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner with the group. (B,D))

Sun, July 15: Check out of the hotel and transfer to Montezuma Castle National Monument, one of the best-preserved cliff dwellings in North America. A 900-year-old legacy of the ancient Sinagua culture, this 20-room high-rise apartment set into a towering limestone cliff tells the story of ingenuity, survival and ultimately, prosperity in an unforgiving desert landscape. Continue on to the Phoenix airport for your flight to Indianapolis. (B)
