Springtime in New York

Featuring the Broadway musical Mean Girls and Georgia O’Keeffe at the New York Botanical Gardens!

May 17-20, 2018

Thu / Sun - 4 Days

Spring is a perfect time to visit Manhattan … the weather is mild and the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet. A Broadway musical and a new major exhibition featuring world-renowned painter Georgia O’Keeffe sweeten the trip! Opening this spring, Georgia O’Keeffe: Visions of Hawaii, is an experience with monumental installations within and around the most celebrated sights in the New York Botanical Gardens.

Included is a guided sightseeing tour as well as plenty of time to explore the city on your own. Take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island, shop at some of the greatest stores in the world, view the city from the Empire State Building’s observation deck or on a Hudson River cruise. With a plethora of restaurant options, you may dine in style on a budget or go all out, from casual delis and food carts to ethnic and top restaurants with celebrity chefs. Visit world-class museums and distinctive neighborhoods such as Greenwich Village, Soho, the Flatiron District and Gramercy Park.

Stay near Times Square, close to theaters, dining and shopping.

Thu, May 17: Depart Indianapolis for Queens, NY (LaGuardia Airport). Transfer to New York City with a guided sightseeing tour en route to check into the Sheraton New York Times Square for three nights. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Fri, May 18: A full day is yours to explore New York City on your own.

Sat, May 19: Enjoy another free day to explore the city or catch a matinee. Tonight, regroup to see Mean Girls, a ferociously funny new musical based on Tina Fey’s 2004 hit film. Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. Will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order by taking on a trio of frenemies? Or, will she learn the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

Sun, May 20: After checking out of the hotel, visit the New York Botanical Gardens, hosting a Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit with a botanical backdrop. Curated by art historian Theresa Papanikolas, Ph.D., of the Honolulu Museum of Art, this groundbreaking exhibition will offer a rare focus on O’Keeffe’s paintings created during a three-month sojourn commissioned by the Hawaiian Pineapple Company (now Dole). It will spotlight a transformative time in the legendary artist’s life, revealing O’Keeffe’s deeply felt impressions of the sights that instilled a lifelong affection for the Islands’ rugged topography, dramatic landscapes and exotic plants.
