Visit the Isle of Capri and the famous Blue Grotto (weather permitting). Visit the excavated remains of the city of Pompeii, destroyed by a volcanic eruption in the first century.

Transfer to Rome for your last three nights in Italy. A sightseeing tour of Rome, including the Colosseum and Roman Forum, introduces you to the glories that were ancient Rome. Tour the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, famous for its frescoes by Michelangelo.

Fri, Nov 2: Overnight flight to Rome, Italy.

Sat, Nov 3: Rome & Sorrento. Arrive in Rome and transfer to the ancient Roman city of Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Check in to your hotel in Sorrento for three nights.

Sun, Nov 4: Sorrento & the Amalfi Coast. Embark on a full-day guided sightseeing tour of the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, known for its dramatic landscapes, uncontaminated nature and spectacular churches overlooking the coast. The beautiful houses built into the mountain right on the beach make these towns the most photographed of the coast. Visit the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea, including the crypt, cloister and museum. Enjoy an evening dinner with your new friends in Sorrento. (B,D)

Mon, Nov 5: Isle of Capri. Take a spectacular excursion from Sorrento by hydrofoil to the romantic and historic Isle of Capri. Your local guide will take you around the island to see the stunning landscape. Tour the upper town of Ana Capri, and take a boat (weather permitting) to the incomparable Blue Grotto, known for its translucent blue water. Return to Sorrento with the rest of the afternoon on your own. (B)

Tue, Nov 6: Pompeii & Rome. Board your deluxe motorcoach this morning and head to Pompeii. Take a walking tour of the ancient ruins of Pompeii, the city destroyed by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., and forever frozen in time. Continue to Rome and check in to your hotel for three nights. Enjoy a group dinner at the hotel tonight. (B,D)

Wed, Nov 7: Rome. Enjoy a half-day sightseeing tour of ancient Rome. Admire the engineering genius of the Romans and hear about the incredible speed at which they built the Colosseum. Visit the ground floor and first floor of this place of gladiator bouts and wild animal spectacles. Learn about the mad emperors who performed in the arena as gladiators. Walk through the heart of the ancient city – the Roman Forum – where your guide will bring to life the memories of a lost world, from the assassination of Julius Caesar to fascinating details of daily life in ancient Rome. Spend the afternoon independently discovering more about the “Eternal City.” From early Roman architecture to Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque churches to great shopping and restaurants, you’ll fall in love with this bustling city. Stop by the Trevi Fountain and throw a coin into it to ensure your return to Rome. Don’t miss the gelato shop Gelato di San Crispino right around the corner from the fountain. Walk across the Pont Sant’Angelo, the ancient bridge decorated with ten Bernini angel statues that spans the Tiber River. Check out the Via Condotti and stroll on its cobblestones to shop, or sit at an outdoor café to enjoy the ambiance that is Rome. Dinner and the evening are on your own. (B)

Thu, Nov 8: On your last full day in Italy, visit the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Explore the famous frescoes in the chapel and see the tomb of the apostle Peter in St. Peter’s Basilica. The afternoon is free for independent exploring. Perhaps you’ll choose to visit the Spanish Steps or climb to the top of Capitoline Hill for great views of the Roman Forum and the city. The Piazza at the top of the hill and the architecture of the Capitoline Museum were designed by Michelangelo. The highlight of the museum is the enormous bronze sculpture of Marcus Aurelius on his horse. Join the group for a Farewell Dinner in a local restaurant. (B,D)

Fri, Nov 9: Depart this morning for your flight back to Indianapolis. (B)
