Ambassadair Trip #7425

The Big Apple beckons and we have your Broadway tickets! Come feel the magic on one of our annual New York City Theatre tours to see four popular musicals and sightsee in Manhattan. Meet an actor/performer to hear stories of life on the Great White Way. See Pretty Woman The Musical, the smash-hit 1990 film which made Julia Roberts a star and boosted the career of Richard Gere. Fall in love at The Band’s Visit, the marvel musical that was a smash off-Broadway last season and the one that the New York Times calls “one of the most ravishing musicals you will ever be seduced by.” Witness the Broadway debut of The Ferryman directed by Academy® and Tony Award® winner Sam Mendes. And finish with the colossal production of King Kong featuring a 20-story, 2,000-pound gorilla and revives the tale of a young actress and a maverick filmmaker on their voyage to capture the greatest wonder the world has ever seen.

In additional to this year’s excellent musicals, take a deeper look at all things New York when you visit the Museum of the City of New York, which encompasses the insights of the people of New York City, art and style, and her history and future. See Harlem like a local and experience the wonderful array of food, history, and architecture. Marvel at the panoramic views of the city from the top of the world at One World Observatory also known as the Freedom Tower and complete your visit to New York with brunch at a favorite Manhattan restaurant. Shows, history, shopping, food, culture, and grand architecture is just waiting for you to enjoy.

Tue, Oct 9: Fly to New York City, New York. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Midtown Manhattan on the way to your hotel. Check into the Marriott Marquis Times Square Hotel, right in the heart of the theatre district. Get settled and have dinner on your own before continuing to your first musical, Pretty Woman The Musical. Based on the 1990 romantic comedy that catapulted Julia Roberts to superstardom and features a book co-written by the film’s director, the late Garry Marshall, and screenwriter J.F. Lawton with music by Grammy winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Now, nearly three decades later, Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots) is bringing Pretty Woman: The Musical to Broadway. Samantha Barks—a 27-year-old British actress best known for playing Éponine in the 2012 film version of Les Misérables—will try to fill Roberts’ high, high heels. Steve Kazee, who won the best-actor Tony for the 2012 musical Once, will take on the Richard Gere stoic-billionaire role.

Wed, Oct 10: Today the fun begins on a “Taste Harlem” food and cultural tour to experience the sights, sounds, food, and friends on a journey through the heart and soul of Harlem. Home to landmark churches and stirring gospel choirs, as well as art galleries and fine dining, this area may bring many surprises as senses will travel from New York to the Deep South and from the Caribbean to West Africa and beyond. Next, visit the Museum of the City of New York and find out what makes New York “New York.” Showcasing the distinctive character of the city and its people, heritage, and current and future ideas, this historic museum offers a glimpse at all the ingredients that make New York City special. Tonight’s show, The Band’s Visit is a musical composed by David Yazbek with book by Itamar Moses. The show follows an Egyptian police band, who, after a mix-up at the border, find themselves in a remote village in the middle of the Israeli desert. Over the course of an evening, the band members are led into unlikely friendships with some of the locals, causing their lives to intertwine and change irreversibly. (Meal: Lunch)

Thu, Oct 11: This morning, meet with an actor/performer from a current Broadway musical to hear personal stories of backstage antics, grueling schedules, and the excitement of a career on the Great White Way. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy New York City. This evening, enjoy dinner on your own before seeing the Broadway play, The Ferryman. Northern Ireland, 1981. The Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest. A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor.

Fri, Oct 12: Visit Lower Manhattan today, home to Wall Street, Battery Park, the 911 Memorial, and other historical landmarks. Visit One World Observatory also known as the Freedom Tower. Ascend 102 stories in 47 seconds on an astonishing ride revealing the city’s historic forest of skyscrapers and views as far as New York Harbor. At the top, take your time to enjoy this top of the world view and pick out your favorite buildings and parks below. After your day in the Empire City, enjoy a night of theater with King Kong, a new musical that blends robotics, puppetry, and stagecraft based on the 1932 novel by Edgar Wallace and Merian Cooper. King Kong follows a young actress and a maverick filmmaker as they voyage from the bustling streets of 1930’s New York to an uncharted island to capture the greatest wonder the world has ever seen. At the center of the stage show is a 20-foot high, 2,000-pound gorilla brought to life by a team of seamlessly integrated artists and technicians.

Sat, Oct 13: Savor a special Farewell Brunch as a group before heading to the airport to fly home. (B)
