Celebrate New Year’s at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena! You’ll have a grandstand seat at the beginning of the parade route to watch the marching bands from throughout the nation, as well as the equestrian units and floral floats. The day after the parade, visit the floats and see them up close to appreciate the design, workmanship and hundreds of hours that go into their creation.

Sat, Dec 29: Depart Indianapolis and fly to Los Angeles, California. Upon arrival, continue to the Getty Center and the J. Paul Getty Museum, renowned for its architecture, gardens, and views overlooking Los Angeles. Enjoy a picnic lunch here before exploring the grounds. Sun, Dec 30: Enjoy your morning at leisure before departing for The Original Farmers Market for lunch on your own and time to explore. Next, take a private tour of Los Angeles, including the TCL Chinese Theater (formerly Grauman’s), the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hollywood, the Sunset Strip, and the La Brea Tarpits. Continue to Santa Monica where you can soak up the nostalgia at this famous pier with time on your own to ride the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel, take a peaceful walk on the beach, shop, enjoy the outstanding coastal views, and dinner at your leisure. Mon, Dec 31: Spend part of the day on a self-guided tour of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in Simi Valley. Don’t miss the Air Force One Pavilion, which houses a Boeing 707 used as Air Force One during Reagan’s administration. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a dazzling New Year’s Eve dinner and champagne toast. (B,D)

Tue, Jan 1: Depart early morning to watch the 130th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade from your reserved grandstand seat. Admire the magnificent floral floats, high-stepping equestrians, and spirited marching bands. Afterward, head back to the hotel, with the rest of your day free for individual exploring. A movie studio tour will be available this afternoon. (B)

Wed, Jan 2: Return to Pasadena to see the floats up close and see what it takes to make these spectacular feats of ingenuity. Afterward, visit the Huntington Library, Art Collection, and Botanical Gardens. Enjoy Afternoon Tea in the famed Rose Garden Tea Room. The Tea Room offers an elegant and memorable experience inspired by the tradition of English tea service with a distinctive California twist. Following, view the library’s extraordinary collection of rare books and manuscripts in the fields of British and American History and literature. The Art Gallery contains one of the most comprehensive collections of 18th and 19th-century British and French art and is home to Gainsborough’s Blue Boy and Lawrence’s Pinkie. Take a stroll through the Botanical Gardens, covering over 120 acres with more than a dozen specialized gardens. (B,L)
