Because this area didn’t experience much damage during the war, you can tour these personally owned homes adorned with elegant marble mantles and intricate archways all furnished with period antiques and outstanding original family pieces. Heavenly gardens bursting with beautiful flowers and trees are the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll. Experience southern history and culture while enjoying live performances and a progressive dinner that tantalizes your taste buds. Not only will you tour these homes, but you actually stay at an early 19th century antebellum mansion in Natchez at the Monmouth Historic Inn, a National Historic Landmark, set in 26 acres of manicured gardens. You’ll visit Vicksburg National Military Park where the Union Army finally forced the surrender of the Confederates on July 4, 1863.
