Mon, Aug 5: Juneau. This morning, before the afternoon arrival in to Juneau, an optional tour to Tracy Arm Fjord is offered from the ship via catamaran. Nestled between 3,000-foot-high granite walls, the narrow, twisting slice of ocean called Tracy Arm Fjord weaves through the Tongass National Forest for roughly 35 miles. The shoreline is spotted with waterfalls, created by melting snowcaps, and trees sprouting at odd angles from rocky outcroppings. The dramatic twin Sawyer Glaciers at the end of Tracy Arm are framed by mountains on either side and are often bathed in a light mist that amplifies the blue hue of the glacial ice. The glaciers are home to wildlife such as bears, wolves, and moose; while the fjord’s icy waters are popular playground for the seals and whales. Then, cruise to Juneau, the state capital of Alaska. With its bounty of water, forests, mountains, and glaciers, Juneau offers a variety of optional activities. Optional excursions include the Taku Glacier Lodge, Feast & Five Glacier Seaplane excursion, a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier and the Juneau Icefields, whale watching, flightseeing, rafting, fishing, dog sledding, and hiking. (B,L,D)

(B,L,D)

Thu, Aug 8: Ketchikan. Discover Ketchikan, located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest. Optional activities include a flightseeing trip to the Misty Fjords National Monument, a Bering Sea Crab Fisherman’s adventure, a sightseeing trip to explore Totem Bight State Park, or Saxman Native Village to see the world’s largest collection of totem poles. Meander along historic Creek Street, once Ketchikan’s “red light” district, now lined with unique shops and art galleries. (B,L,D)
