Begin your trip to Gatlinburg by watching the sacred waters cascading over a 65-foot water fall at Cumberland Falls State Park. A visit to Old Mill in Pigeon Forge takes you back in time and offers you a chance to learn about the history of the area and enjoy the Mill’s wonderful baked goods it helps to make. The Smoky Mountain Opry is sure to excite with its song, dance, and dazzling costumes with state-of-the-art technology.

Wed, May 8: Depart Indianapolis for Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Along the way, make a stop at Cumberland Falls State Park where a waterfall standing 65-feet tall and 125-feet wide beckons you. Known as the “Niagara of the South,” this area along the Cumberland River is held sacred by many Native Americans. Enjoy a rest here before heading on to Gatlinburg. Check into Bearskin Lodge on the River offering beautiful surroundings, a swimming pool and lazy river, and close proximity to shopping. Gather for a Welcome Dinner tonight. (Meals: Dinner)

Thu, May 9: Discover Pigeon Forge at the Old Mill. For 178 years, the mill has been grinding out meals and grains that are used in daily life. Tour this working, historic mill and see the large wheel and learn how it continues contributing to the area. At your leisure, explore all the area has to offer and grab some lunch. Visit the many shops where candy, home-made baked goods, pottery, kitchen products, and even flours, cornmeals, and specialty mixes can be found. Next, make a stop at the Incredible Christmas Place where it’s Christmas every day.  Finish the afternoon learning about the Titanic at the Titanic Museum. This moving tour allows you to become an actual passenger or crew member while you peruse over 400 artifacts and even walk the exact replica of the Grand Staircase before you find out if “you” survived the sinking. Be transported back in time while being surrounded by graceful apple orchards while enjoying dinner at the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant. Tonight, fascinating colors, music, and talent is on display during an evening at the Smoky Mountain Opry. (B,D)

Fri, May 10:  Get a scenic glimpse into Great  Smoky Mountains National Park. A guided tour will take you to scenic overlooks for the perfect pictures, meander through the famous mountain road “Loop,” and arrive at the top of the mountain in Newfound Gap. With an elevation of 5,048 feet, Newfound Gap marks the Tennessee, North Carolina State line, plus the Appalachian Trail crosses over the road and hugs the state lines for most of the trail through the park. Enjoy a picnic in the park before returning to town to enjoy the afternoon at your leisure. (B,L)

Sat, May 11: All aboard the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Riding the rails in style allows you to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Nantahala Gorge while following the Nantahala River. This 4 ½ hour train ride showcases the trees, rocks, Fontana Lake, and flowing river filled with white water rafters and kayakers. Arriving back into Bryson City, continue on to Chattanooga and check in to your hotel. (B,L)

Sun, May 12: Before heading up the mountain, head underground – 1,120 feet under Lookout Mountain to experience Ruby Falls. Since 1935, people have been in awe of the 145-foot underground waterfall. Next, travel through the Cherokee National Forest on theTennessee Valley Railroad  through the secluded Hiwassee River Gorge. Traverse the 50 mile Hiwassee Loop where the tracks cross over themselves as they corkscrew up the mountain. This circuitous route nestled between hillsides and the scenic river passes over a bridge 62 feet above the tracks, as the rails negotiate a spiraling formation.. Gather tonight for a Farewell Dinner. (B,L,D)

Mon, May 13: Take it to the top! Grab a seat on the Lookout Mountain  Incline Railwayand head up the mile long track to the top of Lookout Mountain. A steep, straight up ride has been taking passengers up and down the mountain since 1895. At the top, learn about the area and its part in history while taking in the beautiful surrounding scenery. Return to Indianapolis. (B)
