Quebec City Getaway

  • Date

    August 2-5, 2019 | Fri / Mon – 4 Days

  • Location

    Hotel Manoir Victoria

Romantic European ambiance, fortress walls and sidewalk cafes reminiscent of Paris are closer than you may imagine! Quebec City, the cradle of French civilization in North America, is a living history lesson with a remarkable mix of architecture, heritage and culture. From its historic founding in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain as a trading post on the St. Lawrence River to its European flavor with 18th- and 19th-century buildings, cobblestone streets, fine dining and shopping, old-world charm has never been so close.

Stay near the Vieux Québec, the walled city on top of the hill, where the cultural, historical and gourmet offerings are legendary. The old part of the city still has its fortress walls, built by the French (and later by the British) to defend the city from sieges. These fortifications are the only surviving ones of their kind in North America. Explore the city with a guided tour and then on your own. View the Changing of the Guard ceremony in the morning at the Citadelle de Quebec, choose to visit one of the city’s world-class museums, or indulge in gourmet cuisine.

Fri, Aug 2: Fly to Quebec City, Canada. Discover how maple syrup is made and enjoy lunch and entertainment at an authentic Canadian sugar shack from the 1920’s. Take a tour of the city, following your guide off the beaten path to be charmed by Old Quebec, the only walled city in North America. The characters of local yore will let you relive 400 years of action-packed history! This UNESCO World Heritage Site is impressive with fine old buildings and proud monuments lining winding streets and picturesque places. Check in to the Hotel Manoir Victoria in the heart of Old Quebec (Vieux Quebec) for three nights. At your leisure, explore and have dinner at one of the many delectable restaurants from which to choose. Be sure to try regional favorites such as poutine (fries, gravy and cheese curds) or meat pie for a simpler meal. (Meal: Lunch)

Sat, Aug 3: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before making a visit to the Citadelle de Quebec. Experience the Old City’s fortress, where your tour will reveal over 300 years of history. This active garrison offers impressive architecture and spectacular views. Following the tour, witness Quebec’s only Changing of the Guard ceremony. After lunch, meet your local guide and see one of Quebec City’s most beautiful natural wonders.
