Boston, Cape Cod & Newport

Bustling Boardwalks & Coastal Charm

  • Date

    August 25-30, 2019 | Sun / Fri – 6 Days

  • Location

    Hyannis | Newport | Provincetown | Martha’s Vineyard | Boston

Escape to the “the Cape,” the long fishhook-shaped peninsula located southeast of Boston — a summer haven for vacationers. See the sights for which the Cape is known: bustling boardwalks, lighthouses, sandy beaches, and summer cottages. Stay in Hyannis, and traverse the Olde King’s Highway, visiting lighthouses and stopping in Provincetown for a dune buggy ride to see the “dune shacks” where famous artists and writers have become inspired.

Experience Newport with her grand mansions, which give a fascinating glimpse into Gilded Age extravagance. Visit the Marble House Mansion and The Breakers, considered the grandest of Newport’s homes, both with ties to the Vanderbilt family.

Martha’s Vineyard, famous for its gingerbread houses, is considered a summertime playground for a list of celebrities. Ferry to the island for the day and see why Martha’s Vineyard remains one of the most popular and picturesque destinations in New England. See Oak Bluffs, the quaint fishing village of Menemsha, and the clay cliffs of Aquinnah.

One night in Boston allows ample time for a locally guided tour, a slice of Boston cream pie at the place of its origin, and dinner. Free time on your own and a visit to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum top off the tour.

The excellent fresh seafood, scenic coastal drives and fresh Atlantic breezes certainly add to the allure!

Sun, Aug 25: Fly to Boston, Massachusetts. Take a leisurely drive from Boston down to Cape Cod and enjoy the coastal views along the way. Stop in Plymouth, the site of the colony founded in 1620 by the Pilgrim passengers of the famous Mayflower ship. Enjoy some fresh seafood, salty fresh air, and spectacular views before checking in to your hotel.

Mon, Aug 26: Take a day trip to Newport, Rhode Island. After a narrated tour, spend some leisure time having lunch and shopping before visiting the Marble House Mansion. Built for William and Alva Vanderbilt around 1888, it was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport’s transformation from quiet summer colony to legendary resort community. As one of the leading hostesses in Newport society, Alva Vanderbilt envisioned her home as a “temple to the arts” in America. Next, visit The Breakers, considered the grandest of Newport’s summer “cottages.” This evening, dinner is included at the Atlantic Resort in Newport before returning to the Cape. (Meals: Breakfast, Dinner)

Tue, Aug 27: Today’s adventures begin with a visit to the Cape Cod Seashore Visitor Center, which focuses on the interesting natural history of this unique area. Continue up the coast, following the lighthouse trail winding through Cape Cod as you see and hear about the outer Cape and Provincetown’s historic lighthouses, including Three Sisters and the famous Highland Light. Travel the Olde King’s Highway, dotted with historic Cape Cod architecture and New England inns. Enjoy free time for shopping and lunch in “P-town” before taking off on an exhilarating dune ride. Experience sand dunes stretching as far as you can see with wispy beach grass and dark green pine trees set against the stunning sky. See the “dune shacks” where famous artists and writers found inspiration. Return to Hyannis for a relaxing evening. (B)

Wed, Aug 28: Depart from Hyannis by ferry to the “storybook island” of Martha’s Vineyard. Your tour will include the famous gingerbread houses, the wrought iron Tabernacle, and the antique Flying Horses Carousel of Oak Bluffs, along with stories and views of well-known residents’ homes. There will be time for lunch on your own and to explore Edgartown, which boasts extraordinary views of the Atlantic and is filled with shops, eateries, and attractions. This evening, enjoy a delicious seafood dinner. (B,D)

Thu, Aug 29: Continue to Boston and spend your final night of the tour at The Bostonian, occupying one of the city’s best locations — just steps from Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall Marketplace and a short walk from Boston Harbor and the Freedom Trail. Enjoy free time to wander the picturesque cobblestone streets of historic Beacon Hill, grab lunch at the Boston Public Market, or stroll through Boston Common. This afternoon, tour Boston with a local guide, including a stop for a slice of Boston Cream Pie at the Omni Parker House, the very place where this famous dessert originated in 1856. It was also here in this hotel restaurant that John F. Kennedy proposed to Jackie Onassis. A Farewell Dinner is included this evening. (B,D)

Fri, Aug 30: Enjoy free time this morning before visiting the iconic John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Engage in the interactive exhibits, presidential artifacts, and video presentations that take you on a journey from JFK’s childhood to the White House. Depart for the airport to return home. (B)
