Wed, Nov 13: Before skipping town, tour the Indiana State Police Museum, and learn about the history of law enforcement in Indiana from its inception in 1933 to present day. Drive south to Louisville, Kentucky for a guided tour of the Frazier Museum and probe into the ups and downs of the bourbon industry, including the effects of prohibition. Tour the historic Seelbach Hotel, and inspect the basement rooms where George Remus, considered the “King of the Bootleggers,” and Al Capone frequently played poker and blackjack in the 1920’s. Check in to your centrally located hotel for the evening and enjoy dinner at leisure. (Meal: Lunch)

Thu, Nov 14: This morning, tour the Kentucky State Capital Building. Dedicated in 1910, this beautiful and historic building houses all three branches of government, including the Kentucky Supreme Court. You can’t pass through bourbon country without visiting a distillery! Take a guided examination of Buffalo Trace Distillery, one of the only distilleries that continued producing bourbon through prohibition — for medical reasons. Continue on to Tennessee and the Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, where James Earl Ray, Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassin, was imprisoned. Known as the “End of the Line,” this former maximum-security prison held men with prison sentences of 200 years or more. Once you came here, there was little chance you’d leave. Hear their stories, and explore the grounds before departing for Sevierville, Tennessee for a two-night stay. (B,L,D)

Fri, Nov 15: After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive to the Forbidden Caverns, which offer an interesting piece of moonshine history in Tennessee. The cave was used to make moonshine during the early twenties up until 1943. The constant water supply from an underground lake and the isolated location were ideal conditions for moonshiners to make their homemade whiskey. Visit the brand-new Alcatraz East Crime Museum, which is dedicated to learning about and solving crimes. Research the history of notorious crimes in America, learn about different crime scene investigation techniques, and determine if various punishments fit the crime. Enjoy a little free time this afternoon before the Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery dinner show. Have fun and enjoy lots of laughs as you participate in solving the crime! (B,D)

Sat, Nov 16: Wrap up your investigation by learning about Newport, Kentucky’s scandalous history. Once known for its gangster activity, see how this small town kick started the modern day gaming industry. Enjoy an early last meal before returning to Indianapolis. (B,D)
