Mon, Aug 17: This morning, before the afternoon arrival in to Juneau, an optional tour to Tracy Arm Fjord is offered from the ship via catamaran. Nestled between 3,000-foot-high granite walls, the narrow, twisting slice of ocean called Tracy Arm Fjord weaves through the Tongass National Forest for roughly 35 miles. The shoreline is spotted with waterfalls, created by melting snowcaps, and trees sprouting at odd angles from rocky outcroppings. The dramatic twin Sawyer Glaciers at the end of Tracy Arm are framed by mountains on either side and are often bathed in a light mist that amplifies the blue hue of the glacial ice. The glaciers are home to wildlife such as bears, wolves, and moose; while the fjord’s icy waters are popular playground for the seals and whales. Then, cruise to Juneau, the state capital of Alaska. With its bounty of water, forests, mountains, and glaciers, Juneau offers a variety of optional activities.
