NEW TRIP
Anytime of year is a great time to visit Waco, Texas—home of HGTV Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines. See where it all began for the couple and explore their city known as the Heart of Texas. Waco is also home to a lively cultural district, Baylor University, and the popular soft drink, Dr Pepper. A tour of Waco with local guides reveals many locations seen on Fixer Upper and even passes a couple of the renovated homes. An entire free day allows for shopping at the Magnolia Silos, located just blocks from your hotel, as well as several other stores featured on the show.
While in the region, you’ll explore another of Texas’ trademark attractions—the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Once home to cowboys, cattlemen and outlaws, now not only will you find hectares of cattle pens but a 10-block district encompassing galleries, restaurants, saloons and western shops in the refurbished buildings once used during Fort Worth’s cattle-boom era. The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame showcases history’s top cowboys and cowgirls and you can watch a herd of legendary longhorns walking the runway—descendants of cattle Christopher Columbus brought over from Spain.
