Fri, Oct 7: Overnight flight from Indianapolis to Rome, Italy.

Sat, Oct 8: Arrive in Rome and a private transfer will take us to our hotel where we will check in for the first of two nights. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon exploring this eternal city, home to classic antiquities, renaissance palaces and medieval buildings. Tonight, we dine together and toast our first taste of Italy! (Meal: Dinner)

Sun, Oct 9: After breakfast, we begin with an in depth tour of the smallest country in the world! A visit to the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel will be testimony to Rome’s sacred Christendom and tout its award as an UNESCO World Heritage Centre. The remaining half of your day can be spent on your own or you may choose an optional expert led tour of Imperial Rome taking in the Coliseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. (B)

Mon, Oct 10: Discover the magic of Chianti Classico as we visit the number one tasting attraction in Tuscany, the Castello di Verrazzano. Marvel at the location of the estate, finding the perfect conditions necessary to steward a beautifully balanced taste. A pairing of wine character and Tuscan delicacies will ignite the palate during an informative wine and food extravaganza prior to continuing to Modena. Known for iconic Ferrari, the bel Canto of Luciano and three of the world’s most famous, Italian foods, Balsamic Vinegar, Parmesan Cheese and Prosciutto Ham making it a favorite foodie’s destination.  (B,L)

Tue, Oct 11: Today taste your way through the culinary excellence of two of Modena’s major exports — Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma. Our first introduction to this Italian trinity of tradition begins at Parmigiano Reggiano factory where secrets of this exquisite cheese are unveiled! Next, we proceed to Langhirano and witness the exclusivity and traditions responsible for the award winning flavor of the most famous prosciutto in the world, Parma ham. (B,L)

Wed, Oct 12: Today,journey to Venice and water taxi to Murano Island, the center for luxury glassmaking. We’ll learn of the Venetian dominance in trade and the story behind the retreat to the island. A private glass blowing demonstration will display the talent involved in this historical artistry before retreating back to Venice to tour St. Mark’s Basilica.  (B,D)

Thu, Oct 13: This morning, before departing Modena, we make our final, no-trip-complete-without-it, stop at the Acetaia Malphighi Balsamic Vinegar Factory. An epicurean tutor will chronicle the precise conditions and quality standards that certify the authenticity of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar (Acetaia) of Modena. There is vinegar, and there is real, artisan vinegar. Time will allow to purchase a take-home bottle of this famous, “Black Gold” of Modena; then off to La Spezia, a lovely town and ideal starting point for our Cinque Terre adventure. (B)

Fri, Oct 14: This day begins with a breathtaking boat ride. On display, is Cinque Terre, one of the most beautiful places in Europe and named after the colorful, iconic houses of the five fishing villages sitting high on the Italian Riviera. Though each village boasts the best food in Italy; the award goes to the unique environment of these villages along the coastline and hillside that have earned Cinque Terre the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation for cultural landscape. A shift in vistas takes us into two of the five scenic villages offering another striking perspective, this time, from high in the hills overlooking the sea. (B)

Sat, Oct 15: Our boat ride transports us to Portovenere, romantically known as the Gulf of Poets. Often overshadowed by its neighbor, Portovenere is a medieval fishing village charmed with brightly colored houses along a small, picturesque harbor. Home to the stunning Castle Doria, Byron’s Grotto and the Church of San Pietro, exploration of Portovenere will provide eye witness for ourselves as to why so many famous writers, poets and artists have been awe-struck by the pristine beauty of this evocative bay. One famous English Poet, Lord Byron, chose to commemorate his favorite cave by his namesake, Byron’s Grotto. There will be time in Portovenere for self-discovery before returning to La Spezia. (B,D)

Sun, Oct 16: From the Mediterranean Sea to the third largest of the Italian lakes, Lake Como welcomes all with its natural beauty, timeless appeal and extraordinarily opulent villas along its shore. Board a private boat as serenity awaits, beckoning a firsthand experience of the picturesque landscapes that prove to be intoxicating for all who take her in. Learn how Lake Como’s tranquility and grace continue to inspire today, as it did the genius of Leonoardo da Vinci during the Renaissance. (B)

Mon, Oct 17: Our final full day takes us across the border into the Lakeside City of Lugano, one of Switzerland’s most popular holiday resorts. Surrounding mountains will serve as a stunning backdrop as expert commentary guides us through the Mediterranean-style square and town center of this gorgeous setting. Perplexities of peace can be found at an oasis in the heart of the frenzied city as we stroll the Lakeside Promenade and relax in the pleasing blend of nature and culture at Belvedere Gardens. There will be free time to laze before returning to Como and bid Arrivederci at our farewell dinner in Como. (B,D)
