Overview

Hawaii, the ever-popular Polynesian paradise of unbridled beauty is still one of the world’s top vacation destinations offering an abundance of things to do and see!

Start with two nights in a hotel near famous Waikiki Beach. An included excursion to the Polynesian Cultural Center surrounds you with the culture, history and traditions of the islands—an immersive discovery for all your senses. Then, set sail on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America, United States flagged and crewed and the only cruise ship allowed to sail these Hawaiian waters without touching a foreign port. Set off from Oahu and cruise the Big Island of Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai—all without having to unpack to see each island.

Daily optional excursions are offered to enhance your vacation, and with two ports on the Big Island and port overnights in both Maui and Kauai, you’ll have the extra time and freedom to choose more than just one excursion on each island.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Freestyle Cruising mentality means your time on board is less structured, giving you the flexibility to create your own dining experience, and the liberty to dress up, dress down, or have pizza delivered to your stateroom.

Thu, Feb 22: Fly to Honolulu, Oahu. Transfer to your hotel and spend two nights near Waikiki Beach.

Fri, Feb 23: Following breakfast at the hotel, head out to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, on the northeast coast of Oahu. This must-see attraction presents a wealth of South Pacific island culture. It includes re-creations of traditional villages from Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, the Marquesas, New Zealand and Tonga—as well as a display of the giant stone moai (statues) of Easter Island. Most of the staff are natives of the islands they showcase. Spend the day in the villages, learning the history and traditions of the various islands. Enjoy live demonstrations and shop the Polynesian art and handicrafts marketplace. This evening, a traditional Luau welcomes you to the islands! (Meals: Breakfast, Dinner)

Sat, Feb 24: Board Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America in Honolulu and slip into a relaxed frame of mind, knowing you won’t have to unpack to island-hop for the rest of the trip. (B,L,D)

Sun, Feb 25: Considered the most magical and romantic of the islands, Maui is full of lush mountains and rainforests that complement the tropical beaches. From the port of Kahului, you may choose to see the island’s diverse beauty on a helicopter ride, spying hidden waterfalls in the jungle. Staying overnight on the ship means you can rise before dawn for the ritual sunrise journey to the top of Mount Haleakala. Or sleep in and spend the next day on the beach, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, or hiking. (B,L,D)

Mon, Feb 26: Spend another day exploring the magical charms of Maui. (B,L,D)

Tue, Feb 27: Today, stop in Hilo, Hawaii (the “Big Island”) where the popular stop for many visitors is Volcanoes National Park, a surreal landscape of lava tubes, fire pits, and an active volcano! You can even take a 45-minute helicopter ride over the smoking Mount Kilauea. (B,L,D)

Wed, Feb 28: On the opposite side of the Big Island; visit Kona—the gateway to the sunny western coast, where you may take a drive through rolling green pastures, visit sacred sites, or snorkel in a protected marine preserve. Kona is also home to several coffee plantations, Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, and Kealakekua Bay, where Captain James Cook first set foot on the island in 1778. (B,L,D)

Thu, Feb 29: The tropical paradise of the island of Kauai awaits! Nicknamed “The Garden Isle” this ruggedly beautiful island was the ideal setting for Stephen Spielberg’s motion picture Raiders of the Lost Ark and eleven years later he chose Kauai again for Jurassic Park. Step off the ship in Nawiliwili, Kauai your launching pad for optional excursions to visit Fern Grotto, and Waimea Canyon—a sight you have to see to believe. Swim behind a waterfall or take a small boat excursion to sail the dramatic coastline. (B,L,D)

Fri, Mar 1: Enjoy a second day to discover more of this lush tropical island—a treasure trove of natural beauty and adventure awaits! (B,L,D)

Sat, Mar 2: Disembark in Honolulu after breakfast and enjoy a locally guided tour of Honolulu’s highlights, passing Punchbowl National Cemetery, Iolani Palace and stop to visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. Spend free time taking in your surroundings with time for lunch on your own before heading to the airport for evening flights home. (B)

Sun, Mar 3: Arrive to Indianapolis in the morning.
