Mon, March 3: Fly from Indianapolis to Newark, New Jersey. After a short drive, arrive in Philadelphia in time for lunch on your own at the Reading Terminal Market before meeting your local guide. Get acquainted with Philadelphia on a sightseeing tour including a drive along Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the Champs Elysees of Philadelphia, and several more historical sights. Check into the Marriott Philadelphia Center City before enjoying a Welcome Dinner at a local Irish Pub. (Meals: Dinner)

Tue, March 4: Today is all about the Philadelphia Flower Show, considered the oldest and largest flower show in the world! Enjoy early access to explore acres of garden displays, take in a garden presentation, or pick up a pointer or two on floral arranging. The Flower Show hosts amateurs, professionals and everyone in between. Celebrate the start of Spring in this remarkable way! (B)

Wed, March 5: Travel to Chadds Ford, located west of Philly, for a guided tour at Brandywine River Museum of Art and The Brandywine Conservancy. Chadds Ford is known as the home of three generations of Wyeth painters: N.C., Andrew and Jamie. The museum is a treasure trove of American art, from 19th century landscape, still life and portrait paintings to illustrations and contemporary works, and features galleries dedicated to the Wyeths. Travel five miles to Centreville, Delaware for lunch at historic Buckley’s Tavern. Proceed to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA for a guided tour of the diverse gardens, woodlands and meadows once owned by William Penn and later the private estate of industrialist Pierre S. du Pont. Longwood Gardens is listed in Travel+Leisure magazine’s “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens.” Return to Philly with an evening at leisure. (B,L)

Thu, March 6: After breakfast at the hotel visit Eastern State Penitentiary, a former prison that has its roots with Benjamin Franklin and the Philadelphia Society for Alleviating the Miseries of Public Prisons. The Quaker-inspired penitentiary opened in 1829, a massive structure that became one of the most expensive American buildings of its day. Cells had vaulted sky-lit ceilings and prisoners worked doing shoemaking, weaving and such, radical ideas for the times. Al Capone was one of the most notorious criminals to spend time in Eastern where he spent a rather comfortable eight months in a “Park Avenue” cell. Afterward depart for a guided tour at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the largest museums in the U.S. A highlights tour will ensure you see all the most celebrated pieces. Spend the remainder of the afternoon exploring on your own or enjoying the hotel amenities. This evening, celebrate a wonderful trip with a dinner cruise along the scenic Delaware River. (B,D)

Fri, March 7: Head for Doylestown for a guided tour of Fonthill Castle, a large home built between 1908 and 1912 by the archaeologist and Moravian Pottery & Tileworks founder, Henry Chapman Mercer. The home features 44 rooms and is filled with an extensive collection of ceramics embedded in the house. Tour the tile works museum on the property. Then visit the historic village of New Hope, nestled on the Delaware River in Bucks County, and home to Bucks County Playhouse (a popular spot for shows to be tested and fine-tuned before opening on Broadway). You’ll have time for lunch on your own and exploring this bustling village full of historic buildings, art galleries and locally owned shops. Nearby is where George Washington and troops crossed the Delaware in 1776. Depart mid-afternoon for the airport and flights back to Indianapolis. (B)
