“Is this heaven?”
“No, it’s Iowa.”
Though Iowa may not boast the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, it cradles a rich tapestry of stories captured in beloved films like Field of Dreams, The Bridges of Madison County and State Fair along with TV shows featured on HGTV, Travel Channel and PBS.
Step back in time and wander through the enchanting Amana Colonies, a treasured National Historic Landmark where the echoes of a tight-knit German community resonate through the ages. Experience the spirit of innovation and collaboration that birthed the Community of True Inspiration by resting in a repurposed textile mill, transformed into a cozy boutique hotel that whispers tales of history and hope.
Then, venture into the heart of Iowa’s vibrant capital, Des Moines, where the only silence is the soft “s” at the end of its name. Feel the rush of exhilaration on thrilling carnival rides, hear the joyous sounds of live entertainment, see spirited livestock exhibitions, and savor the mouthwatering delight of unique culinary offerings at the iconic Iowa State Fair. Unearth hidden gems at the West End Architectural Salvage store, where discarded treasures become breathtaking works of art. Capture that picture perfect moment in the stunning Better Homes and Gardens Test Garden, where a kaleidoscope of colors flourishes and innovation in gardening inspires your own green dreams. For the adventurous, take a leap of faith with the legendary Adam Emmencker sandwich at Jethro’s BBQ, a feast demanding courage straight from Man vs. Food.
Walk in the footsteps of legends, tracing the scenes where Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep breathed life into The Bridges of Madison County. Travel to Winterset, the cherished birthplace of American legend and 20th-century icon John Wayne, a place infused with the spirit of true grit and determination.
Explore the iconic farmhouse and stunning grounds of the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville, where the ethereal ghost players materialize from the cornfield, revived for an enchanting evening baseball game. The magic doesn’t stop there – journey on to Galena, IL, where the whispers of this cinematic classic continue to resonate, reminding us that dreams, just like the corn in Iowa, can rise tall and unyielding against the sky.
