Celebrate New Year’s at the 137th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena! You’ll have a grandstand seat at the beginning of the parade route to watch the marching bands from throughout the nation, as well as the equestrian units and floral floats. The day after the parade, visit the floats and see them up close to appreciate the design, workmanship, and hundreds of hours that go into their creation.

Tue, Dec 30: Depart Indianapolis and fly to Los Angeles, California. Step off the plane and into a city landscape framed by the Pacific Ocean, flooded with sunshine, and lined with palm trees. Begin your sightseeing at the Getty Center,perched high in the Santa Monica Mountains above the 405 freeway, this museum houses a billion-dollar collection of fine art containing paintings and decorative arts, sculpture, furniture, photography, drawings by Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, and rotating exhibitions. On a clear day, the panoramic views of the city, surrounding mountains, and ocean’s edge are also a sight to behold. Stroll 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and admire the designer fashion shops and restaurants or walk the Santa Monica Pier. Late afternoon, check in to the Marina del Rey Hotel for the next four nights. Enjoy the evening to explore and dine at your leisure.
Wed, Dec 31: Today take a private tour of Los Angeles, including the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Sunset Strip, La Brea, and Beverly Hills, making stops along the way for sightseeing walks and photos. Explore the Los Angeles City Market, once known for selling produce and now the fashion center of L.A., for shopping and lunch. Return to the hotel to refresh. This evening, celebrate with fellow travelers for an east coast countdown to New Year’s with dinner! (Meals: Breakfast, Dinner)
Thu, Jan 1: Rise and shine for an early morning departure to watch the 137th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade from your reserved parade seat! Fri, Jan 2: This morning, return to Pasadena to see the floats up close and appreciate what it takes to make these spectacular feats of ingenuity. Poke around in Old Pasadena for some free time. Afterwards, visit the Huntington Library, its Art Collections and Botanical Gardens. The three distinct features of the Huntington Library are linked by a devotion to research, education, and beauty. Discover the library’s extraordinary gardens, as well as its collection of rare books and manuscripts. The Art Gallery contains one of the most comprehensive collections of 18th- and 19th-century British and French art. This is home to Gainsborough’s Blue Boy and Lawrence’s Pinkie. Take a stroll through the Botanical Gardens, covering over 120 acres with more than a dozen specialized gardens. Return to the hotel and refresh for an elegant evening cruising the harbor with dinner and live entertainment. (B,D)
