Wed, Feb 25: Fly from Indianapolis to Phoenix, Arizona. Travel by deluxe motorcoach south to visit the Tucson Botanical Garden. Stroll through the 5.5 acres of mature trees and specialty gardens highlighting native plants. Late afternoon, check in to Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort for 4 nights, located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert and steeped in history. Gather for a delicious welcome dinner at the resort. Thu, Feb 26: Visit a recreated Spanish fort, Presidio San Austin del Tucson Museum, to experience Tucson’s history first-hand with a docent led tour and demonstrations. Continue to hear stories of Tucson’s history through interesting stories and viewing historic buildings on a downtown guided walking tour. Next, soak in the beauty and inspiring art of Mission San Xavier del Bac, an active parish church for the Tohono O’odham Nation and a national Historic Landmark. Relax as you travel to Kitt Peak National Observatory, located at 7,000 ft. in the Quinlan Mountains and home to one of the largest arrays of optical and radio telescopes in the world! Wear warm layers, as the best viewing will take place outside. Tucson is renowned for its exceptionally dark skies, minimal light pollution creating an ideal canvas for observing the stars. (B,D)
Fri, Feb 27: Relax this morning at the resort. Take full advantage of the resort amenities such as the spa, heated pools, admire the art & sculptures, or go for a walk in the botanical gardens. This afternoon, visit Sabino Canyon Recreation Area and take a narrated electric trolley tour on a journey to see the wonders of nature and grandeur of the canyon. Return to the resort for the evening and enjoy the live music. (B)
Sat, Feb 28: Stroll down the same streets Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and the Clantons did over 140 years ago in Tombstone, “The Town Too Tough to Die”. Visit the O.K. Corral and see a reenactment of the gunfight, tour the historic complex, and watch Tombstone’s Historama show. Walk around the town and see historic attractions, tasty restaurants, and quaint shops. Tonight, gather around the crackling fire and share stories of your Tucson adventure as you enjoy a Cowboy Cookout with live entertainment at the Tanque Verde Ranch. (B,D)
Sun, Mar 1: After breakfast, say farewell to Tucson. Travel north to explore the unique shops, art galleries and diverse dining options in Old Town Scottsdale. Nestled in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale is Frank Lloyd Wright’s beloved winter home and desert laboratory, Taliesin West. Tour this World Heritage Site and National Historic Landmark and learn how it was built and maintained closely by Frank Lloyd Wright making it the most personal of his creations. Evening flight home.
