Later, embark on a guided sightseeing tour of Reykjavík, which means “smoky bay,” in the Icelandic language. According to Norse legend, in 874 AD the first settler who arrived in the area saw smoke rising from the bay—a feat later explained by the abundance of geothermal activity. Known as the world’s northernmost capital, Reykjavík is a small, but lively city famed for its surrounding natural beauty. Discover its charming cafés, bold and vibrant architecture, lively art scene, and many natural wonders, including its iconic geothermal pools. Following the tour, unwind at Blue Lagoon with a geothermal spa experience—the lagoon’s crystal-blue waters, serene atmosphere, and breathtaking volcanic landscape promote optimal relaxation. Fri, Aug 7: Prepare for a full day immersed in Iceland’s natural wonders! After breakfast, head to Thingvellir National Park—a beautiful landscape situated between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Explore its extensive hiking trails, the Silfra Fissure, or simply marvel at its striking cliffs and crystal-clear waters. In addition to its natural beauty, the site also served as the location where Iceland’s first parliament was established in 930 AD. Next, experience Icelandic innovation at the Friðheimar geothermal greenhouse, where—despite the country’s dark winters—tomatoes grow year-round by harnessing the area’s abundant geothermal energy. See and taste the fruit of this state-of-the-art technology with a lunch that includes garden-fresh tomato soup! There is more than just tomatoes at this farm, step into the horse stable and admire the Icelandic horses known for their variety in gait, colors, strength, endurance, and good temperament. After lunch, visit Geysir Geothermal Area, located in Iceland’s Golden Circle. Witness the magic of geothermal activity—see hot springs, steam vents, colorful mineral deposits, and the frequently erupting Strokkur geyser! Your day exploring Iceland’s marvelous natural beauty also takes you to Gullfoss Waterfall. Named the “Golden Falls” for the water’s golden hue in sunlight, the breathtaking site can be seen up-close, allowing you to experience the raw power of the falls as the tumbling waves crash into the gorge below. Hellnar marks your next stop, a coastal village located near Snӕfellsjökull National Park. Next, see one of Iceland’s most renowned natural wonders, Kirkjufell Mountain. Its steeple-like shape and prominent peak lend to its nickname, “Church Mountain,” and its breathtaking surroundings make it look like a painting come to life. Featured in Game of Thrones and several noteworthy films, Kirkjufell Mountain is a must-see for nature lovers and cinephiles alike. View the Kirkjuefell Mountain from a different angle in the town of Grundarfjordur, situated between the mountains and the sea, before returning to Reykjavik. (B,L)

Reynisfjara beach features black sand, basalt columns, and sea stacks, and is a popular destination due to these unique features. Experience the ultimate Icelandic natural wonder at the Icelandic Lava Show in Vik, the only place in the world displaying real molten lava up-close for visitors. See lava slowly flow into the showroom, reaching temperatures as high as 1100 ℃.
