Sat, Jun 19: Depart Indianapolis on your overnight flight to Reykjavik, Iceland.

Sun, Jun 20: Upon arrival in Reykjavik transfer from the airport to your centrally located hotel for an early check-in. Rest and have breakfast included at the hotel. Later this afternoon, enjoy a leisurely-paced food lovers walking tour in Reykjavik’s city center. A local guide will introduce you to Iceland’s history, culture, and traditions as you taste authentic Icelandic foods and treats, along with some modern culinary innovations! (Meals: Breakfast)

Mon, Jun 21: After breakfast take off on a guided sightseeing tour of Reykjavik, which means “smoky bay,” in the Icelandic language. According to Norse legend, in 874 AD the first settler who arrived in the area saw smoke rising from the bay—a feat later explained by the abundance of geothermal activity. Known as the world’s northernmost capital, Reykjavik is a small, but lively city famed for its surrounding natural beauty. Discover its charming cafés, bold and vibrant architecture, lively art scene, and many natural wonders, including its iconic geothermal pools. Afterwards embark on a thrilling whale watching boat tour. This excursion brings the opportunity to observe a myriad of marine life including whales and dolphins. Enjoy spacious viewing decks and indoor seating while learning about Iceland’s marine ecosystem from expert guides. Have the balance of the day to experience Reykjavik at your own pace—enjoy local attractions, unwind at a café, explore the city, or hike one of many scenic local trails. (B)

Tue, Jun 22: Venture beyond Reykjavik today to visit the stunning Snaefellsnes Peninsula, a region renowned for its dramatic landscapes. Your first stop is Arnarstapi, a picturesque small fishing village. The area features staggering sea cliffs, intricate rock formations, a remarkable view of the glacier-capped Snaefellsjokull volcano, and lively birdlife. Hellnar marks your next stop, a coastal village located near Snaefellsjokull National Park. Next, see one of Iceland’s most renowned natural wonders—Kirkjufell Mountain. Its steeple-like shape and prominent peak lend to its nickname, “Church Mountain,” and its breathtaking surroundings make it look like a painting come to life. Featured in Game of Thrones and several noteworthy films, Kirkjufell Mountain is a must-see for nature lovers and cinephiles alike. Return to Reykjavik in the evening. (B,L)

Wed, Jun 23: Today grab your bathing suit and spend time relaxing in the Blue Lagoon. Drive through the “town of elves” before arriving at the most famous geothermal pool in the world, with the water temperature ranging from 98 to 102°F. Set amid a large and dramatic lava field, the warm aqua-colored, mineral-rich water is reputed for its healing properties. Time will allow for a leisurely swim and drink from the swim up bar or discover specialty products in their exclusive shop. Sightseeing around the otherworldly Reykjanes Peninsula is also included—known for its moonlike landscapes, hot springs, volcanic craters, and abundance of lighthouses standing as distinctive landmarks along the dramatic coastline. (B)

Thu, Jun 24: This morning embark on the classic Golden Circle tour to see some of Iceland’s most stunning sights. See the Geysir geothermal area where the Strokkur geyser shoots a column of water up to 98 feet into the air every four to eight minutes in a thrilling display of nature’s forces. Enjoy lunch before continuing to Gullfoss, a waterfall which tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 105 feet deep. Cap off the tour with a phenomenal visit to Thingvellir National Park, where you can walk through the parting of the American and Eurasian tectonic plates, pulling apart with a gap increase of nearly an inch per year. While driving along, keep an eye out for the Icelandic horses that typically graze the landscape. (B,L)

Fri, Jun 25: Depart the city and head south to the Katla Ice Cave, a unique, year-round natural ice cave famous for its striking layers of bright blue ice and black volcanic ash. Don provided gear to explore the cave on a guided tour—with plenty of time for pictures! Later see the most southernly point on the island, Dyrholaey, before checking into your hotel accommodation with the remainder of the evening at your leisure. (B,L,D)

Sat, Jun 26: After breakfast a short drive followed by a ferry ride will take you to the enchanting Westman Islands. Explore the surroundings—volcanic landscapes, colorful fishing villages, dramatic sea cliffs, and abundant puffins await. The summer nesting season brings Atlantic puffins to the island in enormous numbers filling the steep cliffs and rocky slopes as they nest and dart over the sea in search of fish. Visit the Eldheimar Museum, with exhibits focusing on the 1973 volcanic eruption in Vestmannaeyjar, one of Iceland’s largest natural disasters. Return by ferry to the mainland in the afternoon and transfer back to the hotel. (B,L,D)

Sun, Jun 27: Breakfast is included at the hotel before setting out for another adventure! Explore Iceland’s southern coast, featuring more stunning waterfalls, black sand beaches, and culminating in a live lava show. See Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. Skógafoss waterfall creates a powerful and awe-inspiring display, made even more beautiful by the glittering, misty rainbows often appearing on sunny days. Climb a staircase to a viewing platform for a panoramic view, experiencing the roaring water and shimmering curtain dancing off the falls. Reynisfjara beach features black sand, hexagonal basalt columns, and sea stacks, created by the Atlantic Ocean’s waves breaking down volcanic rock over centuries. A short stop is also made in the village of Vik. Overnight at a hotel in Keflavik, conveniently located close to the airport. (B,L,D)
