Overview

Shrouded in Spanish live oaks and a veil of mystique, Savannah radiates elegant and romantic charm.  Boasting the country’s largest National Historic Landmark area, the city is home to restored mansions clustered amid 22 park-like squares, the Bonaventure Cemetery, made famous by the bestselling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the nine-block brick concourse of River Street, and a bustling City Market.

Established in 1733 by British settlers, the city was the colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later became the first state capital of Georgia. A strategic port city in the American Revolution and during the Civil War, Savannah is today an important Atlantic seaport. The city retains much of its original town plan.

In addition to a sightseeing tour and visits to several attractions, you’ll have time to explore the city on your own. Stroll around Forsyth Park, home of popular monuments and the famed Forsyth Park Fountain erected in 1858 and one of the most photographed images in the city. Savannah is the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low (the founder of the Girl Scouts), and her home is open for tours. If you’re a maritime buff, don’t miss The Ships of the Sea Museum with a large collection of ship models, artifacts and memorabilia.
