Sun, Dec 15: Fly to San Antonio, Texas. Upon arrival, stop for lunch and then get acquainted with the city and hearabout its architecture and culture on a narrated tour aboard a double-decker bus. Stops include the Spanish Governor’s Palace, La Villita Historic Arts Village, San Fernando Cathedral, and Hemisfair Park — the site of the 1968 World’s Fair.Check in to your hotel, located directly on the Paseo del Rio (River Walk), a public park and network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River lined by restaurants, bars, and shops. Gaze up at the towering cypress trees adorned with millions of twinkling lights for the holiday season. Enjoy a delicious Welcome Dinner with your fellow travelers before returning to your hotel. Mon, Dec 16: Today is yours to explore this fascinating city any way you like! Visit the Briscoe Western Art Museum, located in the former San Antonio Public Library building with nine galleries across three levels, or get a sweeping view of the city from the 750-ft landmark Tower of the Americas. There are plenty of Christmas gift shopping opportunities, including the vast array of shops along the Riverwalk, and at the Historic Market Square, the largest Mexican market in the United States. A hop-on/hop-off pass is included that allows you to easily get around and spend your time at the sights that interest you the most. In the late afternoon take a narrated boat cruise on the Paseo del Rio. This evening, after the crowds have left, take a private, after-hours tour of the Alamo. The Alamo played a critical role in the Texas Revolution and people worldwide continue to “Remember the Alamo” as a heroic struggle against impossible odds. (B)

Tue, Dec 17: Journey to the heart of Hill Country to the German settlement of Fredericksburg, with time to independently explore the historic Main Street District where you’ll find more than 150 shops, boutiques and art galleries as well as dozens of restaurants, wine tasting rooms, a brewpub, two museums and more! On your way to town visit nearby LBJ Ranch, the birthplace of the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson. Return to San Antonio later this afternoon and after night fall enjoy a delectable barbecue dinner with the group. (B,D)

Wed, Dec 18: Check out of the hotel late morning, and round out your tour with lunch at the Colonial Room Restaurant located at the historic Menger Hotel, built in 1859. In addition to hosting generations of San Antonio’s most elaborate balls and society parties, the restaurant has welcomed United States Presidents Ulysses S. Grant and William McKinley, in addition to Robert E. Lee, General George Patton, and Oscar Wilde. Afterward, depart for home with fond memories of San Antonio. (B,L)
